Portrait Project
DESCRIBE
- This piece is a picture that I took of my sister after she graduated from her high school. We cam back home after the ceremony, and she asked me if I could take some pictures of her, and this is one of the picture that I took. I wanted to draw someone who was really close to me, so I chose to draw her. If I had to explain this piece over the phone to someone, I would tell them that this is a portrait of an Indian teenage girl wearing a white dress, with her graduation cap.
- I chose to focus more on value for this piece. I tried to incorporate this by creating shades on her face. For example, in spots near her mouth, I tried to make it appear dark, and then get lighter gradually as it moved away from that area.
- I chose to display emphasis, by making the face/head pop out. I wanted that part of the portrait to be the first part that the viewers notice. I did this by creating a brow/tan color gradient near her chin/jawline. This helps to make the face stand out and look more prominent.
- The idea behind this piece was for me to express my love and care for my sister. This matters to me a lot, because we both knew a lot of sibling that genuinely hated each other. Although me and my sister do have arguments, we still love each other very much. I tried to show my love in this piece by paying close attention to her features to make it look as realistic as possible (in my standards).
- What I found successful about my piece, was the face. I spent a lot of time on this part of the drawing, and I am pretty proud of how decent it turned out. I payed close attention to this part of the image.
- The best thing that I learned from this assignment, was the proportions of the face. The warm-up that Mrs. Sudkamp made, helped me a lot with this piece.
