Photography Project
DESCRIBE
- My piece consists of three photos. One is a photo of a remote that belongs to a TV, the second one is a piano, and the third one is a stuffed soccer ball. If I had to explain this piece to someone over the phone, I would just say that there are three pictures, a remote, a piano, and a ball. But they were all taken in a way that promotes perspective.
- In all three of the pictures, I tinkered with the filter settings and light settings to make each picture send of a different color. I wanted these colors to represent how the pandemic can cause changes in someone's mood. The picture with the remote, has more of a dull filter to convey that for some people, the virus is a disturbing subject. In the image with the piano, there is a slight red tint to the overall photo. This was added to show how some people may be angry about their current circumstances. In the picture with the ball, I added a blue tint to the photo, to show how this time is devastating for many people.
- I wanted to emphasize the main objects in the pictures, so I took the picture in a way that people might see the object. In the remote image, the camera is placed near the surface of where the remote is sitting, to show how a shorter person (toddler) might see it. The piano image is taken as if a person's head was resting on the keys. The ball image was taken in a way as if a person was lying on the floor on their stomach, and looking at the ball. All of these angles helped to emphasize the main objects.
- The idea behind these three images is to show my life while being quarantined during the Coronavirus pandemic. The first picture is a remote, because I spend a lot of time with my family watching movies on our TV. The second image is my piano, because I play that as a time-pass. The third image is a stuffed soccer ball, because I pass it around the house all the time.
- The thing that I find most successful about my piece, is the sense of perspective that I tried to show in the images, using different placements of the camera.
- From this assignment, I learned that there are many ways to take an artistic picture, and there is a various amount of tools that we can use to make the image visually appealing.
